Mabuhay ka pangulong Cory Aquino! Mahirap tanggapin na wala kana pero naging inspirasyon ka ng bawat Filipino sa buong mundo. Isa kang tunay na pangulo. I was in highschool when peoples power happen. I live in Quezon City during that time.

when senator ninoy aquino died in 1983, i was in grade 3 and marked the day when i became fully aware of the heroism & patriotism in our country. i should say i'm not a cory/ninoy-fanatic but i remembered raising my right hand in a laban sign everytime i hear people shout cory/ninoy.
now, when pres. cory aquino died, my eldest daughter is also in grade 3 and without further explanations whatsoever, i feel she understands what is happening-the shouting in the street, the people's clamor...she just asked me, "mommy, what age are you when ninoy died?" and i answered, "just the same age as you are baby". maybe she is just curious if we shared the same feeling and was surprised to see her right hand doing the laban sign also while pres. cory was taken out of the manila cathedral and lea salonga was singing "bayan ko".
and though we were not able to attend the funeral, my husband and i promised our kids that we will visit her at manila memorial park one of these days...
president cory is indeed the most loved president of the republic of the philippines!!!

I was six years old when Edsa I happened and "Cory Aquino" was a name I encountered only years after in my history classes, known as the wife of the heroic Ninoy Aquino; a most prayerful, religious leader who had helped fight for our country's democracy; a president whose term was marred by coup attempts [but never of corruption!], and later on, the loving, doting mother of famous host/actress Kris Aquino. She also figured prominently in the latter political upheavals leading Filipinos with prayers, prayers and even more prayers!
Even then, she remained that--a prominent figure of Philippine political history.
At 6am this morning, I woke up with the news of her death. I felt sad, especially for the family, but I went about with my usual routine, going through my chores as though nothing happened.
But now that I sit here, watching events unfold as television networks give us a blow by blow account of her death, and of her life, her achievements, her contributions... I couldn’t help but be teary-eyed, feel an overwhelming, inexplicable sadness. The rains, the cold weather didn’t help as well, as it added to the remorse I am feeling right now.
I felt weird, because I am not part of her family, not even at the ninth degree of consanguinity, nor was I able to meet her at one point in my lifetime. I never saw her up-close and/or in person. She was, to me, still a prominent political figure of Philippine history.
As I sit here and watch how everybody’s been wanting to say a piece or two about the late Cory Aquino, I suppose it is only now that I can see how our former president made an impact in everybody's lives. Her legacy was anchored on the greatness of her strength, her unwavering faith in God, her unbelievable goodness. and I say, unbelievable! How can anyone speak ill of her? she's an epitome of compassion, of strength, that characteristic Pinoy resilience and Catholic faith!
I may sound overboard. But I know a lot of people can relate and commiserate with me. The tribute being paid to her right now is befitting. she deserves it, and perhaps, even more so.
